Richard is a writer, a consultant and a coach. For the last three years, he has been Managing Director of The Turning Point, which is filling a need felt by leaders for support at times of major organisational turbulence, particularly after a merger or a major re-structuring. With his colleagues, Richard has pioneered the firm’s innovative methodology of “accompanying” support over time, which involves a range of inputs, including workshops, learning sets and, most importantly, coaching to increase a leader’s competence to handle personal and organisational transitions.

The Turning Point provides this support to individual leaders in major international firms and Governments in Europe: among its recent work has been support to a major post-merger programme in Canalplus in France.

Earlier in his career, Richard worked for 15 years as a change and organisation consultant with Kinsley Lord, KPMG and DIA.logos, working principally in the UK but also in Indonesia, China and Western Europe. He did an MBA at IMD in 1985, after spending ten years focusing on Africa, in rural development work and human rights.

Richard has written two books: In 2004, Richard co-authored Leaders et Transitions (Village Mondial, Paris) with Gilles Amado, which was translated into English in 2007 as Leaders in Transition (Karnac, London). In 2006 he published Lost in Transition (Cyan/Marshall Cavendish, London) with Bridget Farrands. Richard teaches on the MBA programme at HEC-Paris.

Bridget has worked as an organisation consultant for the last 20 years in the UK, Europe and USA. She works across sectors but has particular experience in retail, banking and brand organisations. She is interested in the intersection of culture, leadership and learning and what that means for individual leaders and how these impact the performance of their organisation.

She also works as an executive coach with individuals who want to develop themselves as people and leaders. She is a founding member of the Association of Professional and Executive Coaches and Supervisors (APECS), a coaching accreditation organisation designed to ensure the highest standards of practice within coaching.

In addition to having held roles as an investment analyst, then in a variety of roles within manufacturing industry, Bridget also trained as a psychotherapist and practised this alongside her consulting work. Now she aims to combine the two worlds, using the insights about how human beings function best to add to her business experience.

Bridget has recently been researching the so far unexplored territory of leaders’ personal experiences in making transitions to senior roles and published this research in October 2006 in Lost in Transition, which she co-authored with Richard Elsner.

Bridget is a frequent visitor to the USA where she teaches at a leadership institute near Boston; she also contributes to the MBA programme at HEC-Paris.

Penny has worked in both operational and strategic human resources for over 25 years. Since 2003 she has specialised in executive coaching. For the previous eleven years she was on the Executive Board of Energis as Group HR Director.

Penny joined Energis at its inception, and participated in all phases from initial launch, through flotation, rapid organic growth, acquisition and expansion into Europe. Following a dramatic change of fortunes within the sector, she continued to provide HR leadership and business management throughout the complex processes of administration, re-financing and restructuring.

Drawing on the substantial coaching experience she gained at board level and throughout the organisation, Penny now concentrates on executive coaching. In particular, she believes that more women in senior roles would improve the performance of organisations and is therefore specialising in the coaching of women to help them realise their potential. Her client base includes men and women at the most senior levels in corporate, public sector and not for profit organisations. In addition, Penny coaches young women with potential in the formative stages of their careers.

Prior to joining Energis, Penny worked in a variety of HR roles in the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience in Industrial Relations in addition to operational HR management. She has a degree in Business Studies, an MSc in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from LSE and is a Member of The Association for Coaching.
